Have you ever looked up at the stars and wished you could bottle that wonder into a photograph? Whether you're chasing the Milky Way, experimenting with long exposures, or simply curious about mastering your camera after dark, now’s your chance.
📷 My Four-Week Nighttime Photography Course at the Newport Visual Arts Center is kicking off soon—and registration closes in just a few days! This immersive program is perfect for anyone ready to take their night shots from blurry to breathtaking. We’ll cover everything from gear setup and camera settings to post-processing and creative techniques. To see a more detailed breakdown of the curriculum, check out my earlier blog post.
👟 Can’t commit to a multi-week class?
I’ve got you covered. Join me for a one-evening workshop hosted by Newport Parks and Recreation. This workshop is designed for busy explorers who want a crash course in shooting after sunset. It’s a fast-paced, hands-on experience for anyone who wants to dip a toe into night photography.
🛻 And for the adventurous souls...
We’re planning a dark-sky road trip to Central Oregon the weekend of August 23rd. Expect clear skies, jaw-dropping stargazing, and the chance to put your skills to the test under one of the region’s most pristine celestial canopies. I'll be presenting, sharing tips on how to use your cameras and smartphones, and revealing every step of my imaging process under some of the darkest and most beautiful skies in Oregon.
🖼️ New! Local Fine Art Metal Printing Services in Newport
Exciting news for artists and photographers in the Newport area: you can now have your work printed on stunning fine art metal—right here in town. I’ve invested in professional-grade equipment to produce my own metal prints. This not only reduces outsourcing costs but also cuts down on environmental impact from shipping and packaging. While I don’t bill outside of Oregon or offer shipping, local creatives or neighbors who simply have images they want printed on metal are welcome to explore these services and see the results firsthand.
Although I have an online cart for your convenience, I am happy to work with you directly and create a custom package. I can do any size from 4" x 6" up to 16" x 20". I offer gloss and semi-gloss on either white (vibrant, bright) or silver (the "white" becomes the bare brushed metal, making it ideal for shots like the moon that can benefit from reflection).
Curious how the process works? This video walks through the setup, printer parameters, and heat press process, giving you a clear sense of what goes into each piece.
🌕 Fine Art Spotlight: Snow Moon, Dauntless, and Celestial Giants
This month, I’m offering a special sale on a curated collection of images captured during February’s Snow Moon—featuring a rare “float by” of the marine vessel Dauntless as it drifted beneath the moon’s glow. These pieces are part of a limited series that blend nautical presence with lunar majesty. The set includes three generously sized 16" x 24" pieces and comes to just $165 per metal print.
🪵 You’ll find some of my largest and most distinctive works on display at Brian McEneny’s Woodcarving Gallery in Seal Rock. This includes the shimmering Thor’s Helmet hologram and my largest Milky Way print, The Moolack Vantage. Just steps away, the Fire Rock Ocean Sky gallery is hosting a temporary exhibit where you can stand before a five-foot-tall brushed metal moon—a piece designed to evoke awe and lunar intimacy.
🎨 For those of you in Newport, I have a few pieces around town. You can view the Lit House at our Chamber of Commerce. If you're lucky enough to visit Claire Barton for your physical therapy, ask her for room #1 where "The Bright Perspective" is on display. Finally, there are two pieces of mine on show at the Pacific Heritage Maritime Center (PHMC).

🌠 Coming Soon: The Oregon Coast After Dark
Step into the moonlit magic of Oregon’s rugged coastline through my lens. This juried exhibition showcases a stunning collection of prints and mixed media that capture the coast’s transformation after sunset—where moonbeams stretch across tidepools, the Milky Way rises over sea stacks, and auroras shimmer on the horizon.
Presented at the historic Chessman Gallery, this show invites viewers to explore the science, art, and emotion woven into each nocturnal scene. Whether you're drawn to the technical mastery or the poetic storytelling, The Oregon Coast After Dark will be a celestial experience grounded in the soul of the Pacific Northwest.
🎶 A Quick Bonus: Generative AI and Creativity
Generative artificial intelligence drives chatbots, deep researchers, co-pilots, and most experiences these days. I have been in the technology industry since before the Internet was even a thing. I've witnessed changes from the dot-com bubble burst to the telecom crash, the disruption of container-based solutions, and the shift to cloud-native.
I put together a reflective music video about generative AI. I wrote the lyrics, but the music, singing, and video are all AI-generated. I was able to produce the entire video, including the music, in just a few hours. To put that in perspective, when I briefly pursued gaming early in my career, I had software that would render three-dimensional scenes over the course of a full day.
See for yourself how powerful AI is today!
Wish you the very best,
